Supprting mental health and well-being is a key focus of what I offer. Drawing and Talking is a gentle and effective method designed to help children and adults address underlying emotional challenges that may impact their learning, behaviour, self-esteem, and relationships. By focusing on early intervention, this approach plays a vital role in enhancing the well-being of individuals across all age groups. Without support, unresolved emotional pain or trauma can lead to more serious mental health concerns over time. With one in four people experiencing mental health difficulties, there is a growing demand for accessible and supportive interventions worldwide. Recognising this need, governments are encouraging professionals to broaden their skill sets and offerings to address this gap.

How It Works

Drawing and Talking focuses on exploring a person’s inner world rather than relying on their conscious or cognitive mind. Often, putting emotions such as pain, fear, and anxiety into words can feel overwhelming or triggering. This approach allows individuals to process these feelings safely, at their own pace, and in a non-intrusive way, staying within the “world” of their drawings.

The technique involves a structured process known as serial drawing, which is conducted weekly over a twelve-week period. As participants progress through the sessions, their drawings evolve, reflecting the healing process in a visual, yet gentle manner.

The theoretical foundation incorporates principles of neurobiological understanding of trauma, emphasising:

The importance of creating a safe and contained space.
Recognising endings, losses, and the significance of attachment.

The experiential aspect focuses on developing the ability to mentally “hold” another person, fostering a meaningful connection that supports the therapeutic journey.

Participants are encouraged to draw, but no artistic skills are necessary. The emphasis is on the practice and experience of creating sessions tailored to their unique needs, fostering growth and emotional healing.
